Sunday 23 October 2011

Well after the festival, I am always inspired. I must say that I got a lot done today.
Frank here is ready for his stitches. (tee hee) Should have him done by the end of the week.
Also got the plates done for a Dresden plate quilt I am working on. Should have it done this week as well.
Wow looks like I have a busy week ahead of me again. Couple of appointments, working 4 days and a visit from Susan. Sleep is overrated!!

Creativ Festival

Well as I mentioned, I was down at the Creativ Festival in Toronto yesterday. What a great day.
Taking the Coach bus down from Lens Mill Store, we made awesome time.Once down there I set out on my shopping mission. I met some great people and managed to stay in my budget. (Well slightly over. LOL)
I took a couple breaks and was out in the park watching all the people. They are so fascinating.
I saw several people pointing up to the CN Tower. Being the hick I am, I couldn't figure out what they were pointing at. Then the light came on and I realized they were looking at the people doing the Sky Walk.

Being someone who is scared of heights, I won't repeat what I was thinking! As much as I enjoy the show. I do enjoy sitting outside and seeing the sights. I am a country girl who doesn't get out much. (Ask Susan!)
I also had the cutest visitors while outside.
These little guys and the squirrels were not afraid of anyone. They are funny to watch.

So back to the show. There were not as many people this year. At least not on the Saturday. I did hear several of the booth's operators commenting that they were running out of things, so I guess Friday was much busier. I never get tired of checking out the new patterns and fabrics that you see down there.
Of course I hit Sew Sisters right away. I just love their booth. No goodie bags this year. Then I was off the Grantham Books. Can't beat their prices. I always try to get a couple books while I am down there.
I have to admit I went to every quilting booth there. I picked up a couple patterns and a new ruler. Can't wait to show Susan, and got an awesome deal on some thread. I am looking forward to the show in the spring. Yes I will be counting down the days. If you have never been, I do recommend that you go at least once. There is some great deals and great people who love to share their ideas.

Saturday 22 October 2011

Well today I am off the the Creativ Festival in Toronto. I always look forward to seeing some new techniques, taking a class and some picking up some great deals. If you have never been to a show, I do recommend that you check one out.
They have two shows every year. One in the spring and one in the fall. They are both great. There is nothing better than a huge room full of quilters and other crafters who love to share their ideas and techniques with you.
I usually go with my friend Susan. But this year she is in the sunny south on a much needed vacation. I will miss her this trip. Hope she has a great holiday though. :)
I will be taking the Lens Mill bus for this show. Another great idea. No worries about driving or parking in downtown Toronto. I will be checking out several boothes this year. Some old favorites and seeing what is new in the quilting world.
Hope everyone has a great day. - Rene

Busy Summer

Well sadly summer is over. On the bright side, I do love the fall. I have been busy taking pictures so I can design some new patterns. I have some beauties on the go. I am looking forward to some quiet time so I can get them completed.

In the meantime, my favorite time of year is coming up. Halloween. This is a sneak peak at a pattern that I am working on. This wall hanging will be so cute when it is done. - Rene

                              Meet Franky!!

Thursday 15 September 2011

As I mentioned on Facebook, I have been in a bit of a funk lately. Not sure why. Could be the weather, or just the time of year. I am not really sure. So I decided that instead of trying to start something new I would finish something old.
I started this project last fall after seeing this technique at the Creative Needle Festival. It is a 3-D hexagon. I of course had to add my own touches to it and you can see in the picture below I have added  some yo-yo's and beads to the centers of the hexagon's. I am very pleased with how it turned out.
Now I just have to figure out how to machine quilt it.

Horseshoe Donation

I managed to find some time this week to finish this quilt for my Dad. I donate every year to help raise money for his Horseshoe club. I also send him some table runners and mats for prizes. The girls that play really like those. Rene

Christina's Last Day!

Today was Christina's last day. She will be missed. She is a very special person. So full of sunshine and lollipops. My first day at work she called me Cupcake. That has always stuck with me. So with her on her way to bigger and better things, I couldn't let her go without giving her something to remember us with.
I designed this table runner just for her. It is done in purples and reds with some gold accents. It is bright and cheery just like her.

All the best Christina. We will all miss you very much!!

Sad to See You Go!

We meet alot of people in our lives. Some just come and go and some really touch our lives.
As some of you know I work part-time. While there I have gotten to know some really great girls. One of them is Christina. She is the most bubbly, energetic and nicest person I have ever met. She has taught me many things. When she enters a room you can not help but smile. She just does that to you.
Sadly she is moving on to another job. I really do understand why she is moving, but it doesn't make the move any easier. I wish her the very best in her new job, but will miss her very much. I wish her nothing but happiness and can't wait to see pics of her with her business suit and briefcase. (She knows what I mean!)
Good Luck Christina!!!

Queen Anne's Lace

While helping my husband work on my truck this weekend, I watched a butterfly land on a piece of Queen Anne's Lace. There was something very striking about it. So being that my brain is always in create mode and my husband was busy looking for a tool, I decided to take a picture for later reference. By the time I got my camera though, the butterfly was gone. So I got my handy journal out and drew a quick picture so I could come up with something later. Of course I still thinking of that butterfly as we finished up with my truck and once supper was done I headed down to my studio to see what I could come up with. Than I remembered a technique I learned at the Creative Needle Festival this spring. I have been wanting to try it and this was perfect. The yarn in the flowers gives it a 3D effect which I love, and the butterflies were added on to add to the effect. It always amazes me what you can do with some scraps and some imagination. - Rene
